Assignment # 3

" Caught by the Sea" Sentences

Simple


  • The wave was too big. p. 46

  • I looked at the front of the boat. p. 47

This two sentences are simple because they oniy have one independent clause.


Compound



  • I called the owner and he agreed to let me pay her off over time. p. 22

  • I was beginning to understand the concept of time and distance, and the food supply concerrned. p.67

This two sentences are compound they are made up of two independent clauses and separated with a coordinator.


Complex



  • I do not mean to give the impression that there was any semblance of order. p.52



  • I was hanging on to the mast with one hand, the gaskets around my neck, trying to snag the sail and get it out of the water the boom decided to kill me. p. 53

Compound- Complex



  • There are some waves that dwarf others when their movement becomes synchronized and they come together to form a much larger one. p. 44-45


  • The main had been tied to the boom with small webbing gaskets, and I had thrown them down inside on the port bench when I pulled the main up. p.49

Is this sentence a compound sentence? should those two independent clauses have a connecting word between them ?

Do you think this sentence is complex setence? I can not find subordinator and there are only one independent clause.
